Looking for a photographer for your wedding in Salisbury? There are plenty of wedding photographers in Salisbury to choose from, each offering a different style of photography and a range of different products. If I could offer just one piece of advice, it would be to compare photographers not by the products they offer but for the quality of their photography. The cost of a print in this day and age is negligible, the value of the image contained on that print is priceless.

I have photographed many weddings in and around the Salisbury area. Some of the venues I can particularly recommend are Old Wardour Castle, Antrobus House and the Guildhall. All are excellent venues befitting the importance of the occasion and, in my opinion, are amongst the finest in Wiltshire.

I recently had a rather eye-opening conversation with an acquaintance. The reason that it was eye-opening was that, as a photographer, I often take my appreciation of the value of photography for granted. This particular gentlemen confessed that he did not understand the wild variation in pricing amongst wedding photographers given that, after all, “they are all providing the same product”. Nothing could be further than the truth. Every wedding photographer, from Salisbury, Wiltshire, to Ottawa, Canada has their own unique vision and style, and no two photographers will capture an event in the same way. Photography is not a science but an art, and the fruits of the photographer’s labour derive from the successful fusion of technical skill and compositional ability, requiring great dedication and determination to master.

The last thing to consider when looking for a wedding photographer is budget. “The last thing?!” I hear you exclaim. Well yes. Really. Think about it. Your wedding is the most important day of your life. Once the cake is eaten, the presents opened and the dress packed away, your photos will be the only lasting memories of your special day. They will be looked back on throughout your life not only by you but by family and friends, your children, and your children’s children. Of course, not everyone has an unlimited budget. However, if corners must be cut, I implore you to consider cut-backs elsewhere before making compromises with your choice of wedding photographer.

Undoubtedly many a wedding photographer has been hired whose suitability has been decided, at least in part, according to a pre-calculated budget. My strong preference is not to be chosen according to such criteria. My clients hire me for my unique style and for my proven ability. I would like to think that budget is a secondary consideration – that a wedding is an occasion of sufficient magnitude to transcend financial concerns.

I am a romantic, a dreamer, but that is what makes me an artist.
